The Ministry of Commerce has prohibited businesses and individuals from using the Saudi Arabian flag for the sake of commercial promotions such as goods, publications, products, brochures, gifts, and others.
Why did they do it?
Ministry says that the ban is because of لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله which is embellished on the national flag. The Saudi national flag proudly entails the name of Allah along with two swords and a palm tree. The ban also covers using the pictures of Saudi leaders and officials for sake of promotion.
It is because once the promotion is over, the Saudi flag with the Arabic writing لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله is often seen on the floor or trashbin.
Can we use Saudi flag pictures online?
The Ministry has clarified that the ban on using the Saudi flag is only applicable to those items which can be thrown away or disrespected anyway.
It means that commercial establishments can continue to use the Saudi flag for their online promotions.
