Friend in need is a friend indeed, which is a common phrase that we have been hearing since childhood. We often have friends who go through financial problems and we tend to lend a helping hand to them. Yet, that is where they exploit our friendship and do not return the money. What to do if a friend does not return money in Saudi Arabia?

I have seen many such cases: cases where friendship was exploited, where friends would not return the money even when the committed date has passed over the years, where friendship ended due to this reason.

What to do at the time of giving loans?

It is very important to sign an agreement at the time you are giving a loan to someone so that it can be produced as evidence in the future if a dispute arises. Allah also emphasizes its importance in the Holy Quran and instructs the one who takes loan to write it.

O you who believe! When you contract a debt for a fixed period, write it down. Let a scribe write it down in justice between you. Let not the scribe refuse to write as Allaah has taught him, so let him write. Let him (the debtor) who incurs the liability dictate, and he must fear Allaah, his Lord, and diminish not anything of what he owes. – Quran 2:282

What to do if a friend does not return money in Saudi Arabia?

So that question is what needs to be done. If you are living in Saudi Arabia and have been unlucky enough to have such a friend, then hear is good news for you: you can get your money back from your friend. There is a legal procedure for it!

In case, there is no legal investment contract that has been signed between you and your friend that obliges him to pay you back the money, then a letter that states that he owes you that certain amount is enough as a proof of it.  So here is what you need to do:

1. Send a personal official letter, stating that the person is obliged to pay you back the amount.
2. On refusal or negative reply, hire a lawyer so that he can state your case and send him a legal notice over it.
3. If there is no positive answer, then file a lawsuit against him before the courts of Saudi Arabia ask him for returning the borrowed amount.
