Private Driving License

The most common type of driving license in Saudi Arabia is the private one. This driving license allows you to drive only personal vehicles with a maximum seating capacity of 8 people which means that you are not allowed to drive taxis, buses, or trucks.

Moreover, people with private driving licenses cannot drive any vehicle with a blue number plate.

Public Taxi

If someone wants to drive a public taxi in Saudi Arabia, he must apply for a public driving license category.

Requirements

  • Profession on Iqama: Taxi Driver.

Heavy Truck

If your job requires driving heavy trucks with a weight of more than 3.4 tons such as cement trucks, you need to apply for this type of driving license in Saudi Arabia. 

Requirements

  • Profession on Iqama: Heavy Truck Driver.
  • Minimum Age: 21 years.
  • Heavy Truck Driving License Duration: 5 years.
  • Heavy Truck Driving License Fee: SR 200

Motorcycle Driving License

People who want to ride a bike in Saudi Arabia have to get a motorcycle driving license.

Temporary Private License

The temporary private license is applied by those who want to learn to drive in Saudi Arabia. 

Requirements

Heavy equipment vehicle

If you are a heavy mobile equipment operator such as a dump truck driver or forklift driver, you need to apply for a heavy equipment vehicle.

  • Profession on Iqama: suitable.
  • Heavy equipment driving license duration: 5 years.
  • Heavy Equipment Driving License Fee: SR 500.

Small Carriage Vehicle.

People with a private driving license cannot drive a vehicle with a blue number plate. You need at least a small carriage vehicle license to drive those cars.

Medium Truck

If your job requires driving small trucks with a weight of fewer than 3.4 tons, you need to apply for this type of driving license in Saudi Arabia. Keep in mind that a person with a heavy truck license can drive a medium or small truck.

Small Bus

If your job requires you to drive a minibus with a capacity of 1 to 15 passengers, you need to apply for a small bus driving license.

Large Bus

If you are required to drive a big bus with a capacity of more than 15 passengers, you need a large bus driving license. However, a person with a small bus driving license can also drive a large bus.

Diplomatic Driving License

You might have seen diplomatic cars with a green number plate in Saudi Arabia which are issued in the names of different embassies of the countries. In order to drive these cars, you need a special type of driving license called diplomatic DL.
