Do not worship anyone except Allah
The first commandment of Prophet Musa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ has been mentioned in the Holy Quran, and it strictly urges the people to come to the straight path and not worship anyone except Allah.
Your God is only One God. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful. – Al-Baqarah 2:163
Fulfill your duties towards people
The fourth commandment of the Torah requires you to fulfill the rights of others. The Holy Quran calls upon the believers to perform their duties towards people around them. We must look upon our relatives, the poor, and the needy as good believers.
Indeed, Allah commands you to return trusts to their rightful owners; and when you judge between people, judge with fairness. – An-Nisa 4:58
Do not kill anyone
The seventh commandment of Prophet Musa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ strictly forbids people from killing innocent people. It is prohibited to murder anyone, and if anyone murders a person, then Islam permits the family of the victim to decide whether the murderer should be punished by death or not. Every person’s life is valuable, and no one has a right to deprive anyone of life!
Whoever kills a person not in retaliation for a person killed, nor (as a punishment) for spreading disorder on the earth, is as if he has killed the whole of humankind. – Al-Ma’idah 5:32
Do not steal from anyone
The eighth commandment of the Torah strictly prohibits Muslims from stealing someone else’s wealth. Stealing also includes stealing someone’s wealth through unlawful means, like snatching the wealth from an orphan. The Quran strictly tells believers to stay away from the wealth of an orphan.
As for male and female thieves, cut off their hands for what they have done – Al-Ma’idah 5:38
Do not waste money
The fifth commandment of Prophet Musa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ summarized in the Holy Quran is to utilize your wealth for the things that are necessary for you and don’t waste it on unnecessary things.
Eat and drink, but do not waste. Surely He does not like the wasteful. – Al-Araf 7:31
Do not make Idols
The second commandment of the Torah forbids people to make idols. The Holy Quran strictly prohibits making and worshipping idols. The Quran says you worship Allah, your only God, and do not make idols.
Do they associate ˹with Allah˺ those ˹idols˺ which cannot create anything, but are in fact created. – Al-Araf 7:191
Honor your parents
The third commandment of Prophet Musa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ stresses honoring your parents.
If any of them or both of them (parents) reach old age, do not say to them: Uff (a word or expression of anger or contempt). Do not scold them, and address them with respectful words. – Al-Isra 17:23
Do not commit adultery
The sixth commandment of the Torah requires you to refrain from committing adultery. The Holy Quran strictly prohibits its believers from adultery. Adultery is no doubt a shameful act and an evil way.
Do not go near adultery. It is truly a shameful deed and an evil way. – Al Isra 17:32
Fulfill your promise
The tenth commandment of the Torah asks Muslims to honor their promises. A Muslim’s quality distinguishes him from others is that he never lies and always fulfills his promise to others.
Fulfill the covenant. Surely, the covenant will be questioned. – Al Isra 17:34
Do not weigh or measure less
The ninth commandment of Prophet Musa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ requires people to weigh correctly. It is stated in the Quran that you always weigh and measure accurately when you are conducting any business. This means that you should always conduct your business fairly. It is only by fair means that your business will prosper.
Give in full when you measure, and weigh with an even balance. – Al Isra 17:35
