Saudi Arabia divides petrol stations and service centers into four main types depending on their location, area, and facilities. Here are the details;
Types of Petrol Stations
1- The first type of petrol stations include those service stations located on highways covering an area of 10,000 square meters.

2- The second category covers all those petrol stations located on highways covering an area of 6,000 square meters.
3- The third type covers all those petrol stations that are located in approved planned districts in cities and cover an area of 3,000 square meters.
4- The fourth category includes all those petrol stations that are placed in an approved and planned district in cities and have an area of 2,000 square meters.
Rules for Petrol Stations
Besides these four categories, the bylaws stipulate some further rules.
The petrol station on highways in the same direction should be built with a minimum distance of 50 kilometers.
The distance between petrol stations on roads other than highways should not be less than 20 kilometers.
The petrol stations are not allowed to make any changes on entry or exit points once the license has been issued.
The petrol stations must be located at a distance of 25 meters from factories, hospitals, schools, wedding halls, and shopping malls.
