Expat Worker Salary Insurance in Saudi Arabia

HRSD Ministry and the Insurance Authority have launched a new insurance policy called Expat Worker Wage Insurance for the Private Sector. This policy allows private sector expat employees to take up to six months’ salary if the employer defaults on payment.

Benefits of the Salary Insurance

As per the terms stipulated in the expat salary insurance by the HRSD Ministry, the employee is entitled to the following benefits;

  • Six months of unpaid salaries by the employer (max coverage: SR 17,500).
  • A one-way ticket to the home country if the employee wants to leave on a final exit (max: SR 1,000).
  • End of Service benefits are not covered.

Insurance Cost

The Ministry bears the cost of the insurance service and its application. The employer or employee will not have to pay additional fees for the policy.

Terms & Conditions

1- The policy has already been implemented since Oct 06, 2024.

2- The policy only applies to expat workers working in the private sector. It does not cover domestic workers.

3- An expat worker is eligible for compensation if their employer delays wages for;

  • Over six months.
  • Affecting 80% or more of the workforce.

4- Expat workers claim compensation even if transferred to another employer.

5- This service does not cover expatriate workers in establishments that defaulted before this wage insurance service came into effect.

How to apply for compensation?

To apply for compensation, expatriate workers must follow these steps:

  • Submit a compensation claim to the insurance company.
  • Provide evidence of the most recent salary received from the defaulting company.
  • A copy of the worker’s employment contract must be attached (Qiwa Contract).
  • Last Salary Slip or any other document mentioning the total salary.
  • Digital Iqama copy.
