Who was Hazrat Prophet Ishaq – story?

Allah has sent 124,000 Prophets, out of which one was Hazrat Ishaq عليه السلام, the son of Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام and Sara عليه السلام.

Birth of Prophet Ishaq

Prophet Ishaq عليه السلام was born in 1896 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 1716 BC at the age of 180 years. At the time of his birth, Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام was 100 years old and Sara عليه السلام was 90 years old.

In fact, when the angels (Jibrael, Mikael, and Israfil) came to destroy the people of Lut, they first came to see Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام and gave them the good news of the birth of Hazrat Ishaq عليه السلام and the grandson Prophet Yaqub عليه السلام.

Upon this Sara عليه السلام laughed that how can I have a child in this old age, and my husband here is an old man? – Hud 11:72

• Angels responded: “Are you astonished by Allah’s decree?” Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, All-Glorious.”

When Prophet Isaac was 8 days old, Ibrahim circumcised him, as God commanded him. – Genesis 21:4

The name of Prophet Ishaq عليه السلام is mentioned 17 times in the Holy Quran at different places. Allah talks about 3 generations of Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام, Isaac, and Prophet Yaqub عليه السلام at so many places together.

Prophet Ishaq marriage

Isaac عليه السلام was married to Rebecca, the daughter of Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام nephew Bethuel at the age of 40 years. Bethuel was the son of Nahor, the brother of Ibrahim who migrated from Turkey with him.

Prophet Isaac Children

Allah blessed Hazrat Ishaq عليه السلام twin sons Esau and Yaqub in 1836 BC when he was 60 years old after almost 20 years of their marriage. Esau was the first to be born with Yaqub following, holding his heel.

The twins grew up very differently. Prophet Yaqub عليه السلام was a quiet man, staying among the tents and his mother’s favorite. Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the open country” and his father’s favorite.

Fight between Yaqub and Esau

When the time came for Prophet Ishaq عليه السلام to bestow his blessing on his sons, Prophet Yaqub عليه السلام and his mother Rebecca contrived to deceive Isaac (due to his weak eye-sight) into blessing Yaqub in Esau’s place.

When Esau found that his blessings had been given to Yaqub, he threatened to kill his brother.

Upon this, his mother advised him to travel to her brother Laban’s house in Haran (present-day Turkey), until Esau’s anger subsided. Years later, Yaqub عليه السلام and Esau met and were reconciled.

The marriage of Esau

At the time of the death of Prophet Ismail عليه السلام, he arranged the marriage of his daughter Mahalath with Esau, the son of Prophet Ishaq عليه السلام. Both of them gave birth to 5 sons;

• Reuel Ibn Esau.
• Nahath Ibn Esau was the grandfather of Prophet Khidr عليه السلام.
• Zerah Ibn Esau was the grandfather of Prophet Ayub عليه السلام.
• Shammah Ibn Esau.
• Mizzah Ibn Esau.

Grave of Prophet Ishaq

Prophet Ishaq عليه السلام came to Prophet Yaqub عليه السلام and got settled in the place called Hebron today.

Isaac عليه السلام died in 1716 BC at the age of 180 years and was buried in the cave of the Patriarchs, which is known as Masjid Khalil these days, along with many of his family members including;

• Prophet Yaqub عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ and his wife Leah.
