Requirements for car ownership transfer
Following are the requirements to transfer car ownership in Saudi Arabia online using the Absher platform.

- Buyer and Seller must have an Absher account.
- Iqama number and the date of birth of the buyer.
- Vehicle Sequence Number.
- Saudi National Address updated in Absher.
- IBAN Number of the seller’s bank account.
- IBAN Number of the buyer’s bank account.
- The price of the vehicle (ranging from SR 500 to SR 200,000).
- SR 150 + SR 230 = SR 380 car transfer fee in KSA.
- Valid Fahas – Check Fahas Validity Online
- A third party or comprehensive insurance by the buyer.
- The maximum number of cars an expat can own is 2.
Stages of the Vehicle Transfer
- The buyer pays SR 150 car transfer fee through SADAD.
- The seller creates a request to sell his vehicle.
- The buyer accepts/rejects the car ownership transfer request.
- The buyer transfers money to the Absher bank account.
- The seller delivers the vehicle.
- The buyer collects Istimara from the Muroor.
Step 1: Pay Car Transfer fee in KSA
The fee for the transfer of car ownership in Saudi Arabia is SR 380, of which SR 150 is paid through SADAD. The remaining SR 230 will be added to the vehicle’s cost and paid by the buyer.
To pay a car transfer fee in KSA using Al Rajhi bank;
- Download the Application through PlayStore or iTunes.
- Log in to your internet banking account.
- Click on the three dots on the left-upper corner.
- Select “Payments“.
- Press the “Government Payments” button.
- Services: Motor Vehicle.
- Application Type: Transfer Owner.
On the next page, select the following;
- Transaction Type: Payment.
- Current Owner ID: Iqama Number of the current owner.
- Enter Vehicle Sequence Number.
- New Owner ID: Iqama Number of the new owner.
The system will show you the new owner’s name and the amount of SR 150 for the car transfer fee to be paid.
Step 2: Request to transfer vehicle ownership
In the next step to transfer car ownership online in Saudi Arabia, the seller will create a request to sell his vehicle through Absher. In order to do that;
- Log in to your Absher account https://www.absher.sa/
- Click on the “Vehicles” tab.
- Select “Vehicle Ownership Transfer” from the online services.
- Scroll down and select “Seller” from the options.
On the next page, you need to;
- Select the car to transfer ownership.
- Enter the price of the vehicle.
- Enter the buyer’s Iqama Number.
- Choose Calendar Type: Gregorian.
- Select the buyer’s date of birth.
- Enter the IBAN of the seller’s account number. The car sale proceeds will be transferred to this account.
- Select the region where the vehicle is to be sold.
On the next page, you must accept the terms and conditions of creating a request to transfer car ownership in Saudi Arabia online using the Absher account.
- The buyer has only 2 hours to accept the request.
Step 3: Accept the Car Ownership transfer request
In the next step, the buyer will accept/reject a request to transfer car ownership through Absher within one hour of request creation. In order to do that;
- Log in to your Absher account https://www.absher.sa/
- Click on the “Services” tab under Vehicles.
- Select “Vehicle Ownership Transfer” from the online services.
You will find the request generated by the seller for the sale of the car.
- Accept or Reject the car transfer request.
In the next step,
- Enter the IBAN of the buyer’s bank account. The amount will be credited to this account if the deal is canceled.
- Select the region where the vehicle is to be sold.
- Check the price of the vehicle you are buying.
- Agree to the terms and conditions to transfer car ownership in Saudi Arabia online using the Absher account.
The Absher system will display a bank account number to make the payment. This is the bank account of Absher. The funds will not be released to the seller at this point.
- The buyer has only 72 hours to make the payment.
- The payment will not be processed during non-banking hours.
- The car transfer fee of SR 230 has already been added to the price.
Step 4: Make the payment.
The buyer needs to make the payment to the designated bank account within 72 hours of accepting the request to transfer car ownership in Saudi Arabia online using the Absher account.
- The payment will not be processed during non-banking hours.
- First Name of the beneficiary: Account.
- Last Name of the beneficiary: Dhamen.
Step 5: Delivery of the Vehicle.
After successfully transferring funds, the buyer and the seller will wait for this SMS from Absher.

The seller will will log in to his Absher account and deliver the vehicle to the buyer.;
- Log in to your Absher account https://www.absher.sa/
- Click on the “Vehicles” tab.
- Select “Vehicle Ownership Transfer” from the online services.
- Absher will show you that the buyer has made the full payment. Click on “View Request” to proceed.
On the next page, click on “Proceed to Vehicle Delivery“.
The buyer will receive an OTP in the SMS, which the seller has to enter into his Absher account to complete the delivery.
Make sure you give the OTP to the seller only after receiving the delivery of the vehicle. After the delivery, the payment will be released to the seller from the Absher account.
That’s it; you have completed the online process to transfer car ownership in Saudi Arabia through the Absher account.
Absher will transfer the amount to the seller’s bank account within 2 hours.
Step 6: Collect the Istimara
In order to collect Istimara after transferring the car ownership,
- Take a Muroor appointment with the purpose طباعة رخصة سير مركبة.
- Visit the traffic police station with your Iqama.
- Collect the new Istimara.
- You can also request postal delivery of the new Istimara.
Transfer of Car ownership from Bank
If you have leased a car from the bank to your name in KSA, you can transfer the ownership following this procedure.
- Valid Fahas.
- The buyer will Buy the Insurance in his name.
- Pay off all the dues to the bank.
- Submit all the above-mentioned required documents to transfer car ownership to the bank.
- Pay the transfer fee i.e. around SR 525 to the bank.
- Get the Istimara within 2 weeks of submitting the request from the same bank.
FAQs
- A Saudi can own as many cars as he wants. However, an expatriate living in Saudi Arabia can own only 2 cars at a time.
- In order to transfer the car ownership to your son, you will have to follow the same procedure as explained above.
- A wife can drive the husband’s car in KSA without transferring the title. Make sure to register her as an additional driver while taking the insurance.
