Location of Yemeni corner
The Rukn-al-Yamani is located on the right side of the Hajar Al Aswad, the black stone in the eastern corner of the Holy Kaaba.
Istilaam on Rukn e Yamani
Due to the fact that the Yemeni corner is currently standing on the very same foundation that Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام had built in 1890 BC, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to do Istilaam on it.
The Istilaam of the Rukn is referred to as the touching of the corner, whether it is done by kissing or by hand.
In other words, Istilaam of Rukn-e-Yamani is a Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. However, there is no harm if any pilgrim or worshipper is not able to reach and touch the corner due to the massive crowds inside the Mataaf.
Dua between Rukn e Yamani and Hajr e Aswad
Whenever Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would pass between the Yemeni corner and the Hajr-e-Aswad, he would recite the following dua;
“O Allah grants us all that which is good in this world, all that which is good in the Akhirah and save us from the punishment of the fire of Jahannam” (hell). – Al-Baqarah 2:201
A special type of concrete
To prevent the lower portion of the Rukn al Yamani from disintegrating, a special type of concrete, molten metal, and long stainless-steel nails are used.
This process has to be repeated in order to maintain the current state of the corner.
Why is it not covered?
Do you know why one of the corners of the Holy Kaaba, Rukn e Yamani is not covered with Kiswa?
As we mentioned in the article, touching the Yemeni corner during Tawaf is a sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, so it has been left open and not covered for thousands of years.
